History of Standard Libelle 201 serial 173

1971
Std Libelle 205 with serial 173 build in 1971, was first registered in the UK under BGA Certificate 1632. The first owners, A.J. Watson and C. Wills, bought plane in January 1971. The CoA was issued on April 15th, 1971. The original Glider Log Book of the British Gliding Association BGA came with the purchase of the Libelle.

In 1971 the Libelle made 44 starts and flew 95 hours in total. Unfortunately, in July '71 the undercarriage was damaged in a field landing. The repair was done by Southdown Aero Services Ltd in Lasham. A complete new undercarriage unit and wheel assembly were fitted.


1972

In March '72 Mr. A.F. Parslow from SAS Ltd from Lasham performed an annual inspection. The tail wheel axle was rotating in the housing. This was repaired. The dive brake actuating was stiff due to greasing of the of the nyon guides. Grease cleaned off and surface dried with French chalk resolved  this.
In 1972 the Libelle made 37 starts and flew 67 hours in total. Total lifetime of 81 starts and 163 hours.

1973

In March '73 Mr. Richard Green did an annual inspection on the Libelle. Besides the normal cleaning and lubrication no specific repairs were needed.
1973 was also not a lucky year. Apparantly the tail was broken in June. No report of how and where. The inspection report shows in detail the work done to repair this. The work is performed by Mr. G.B. Buchanon of  Slingsby Sailplanes, located in Kirbymoorside in York.
The Libelle was sold to Mr. R. Aldous, Marlow, Buckinghamshire in October '73 after the tail was repaired.

In 1973 the Libelle made 23 starts and flew 57 hours in total. Total starts and hours during lifetime of Libelle equals 104 starts and 220 hours.


1974

After the tail break in '73 the Libelle was inspected for renewal of the CoA in February '74. Inspection was done by Mr. Arthur W. Doughty in Twickenham Middlesex. The inspection report mentiones Standard Libelle 201 B version for the first time...
In 1974 the Libelle made 54 starts and flew 139 hours in total. Total starts and hours during lifetime of Libelle equals 158 starts and 359 hours.
Besides The Netherlands loosing the World Cup Soccer against Germany no significant events happened...

1975

Annual inspection done in April '75 by Mr. H.J.A. Page in HighWycombe.
At the same time water ballast system was installed in accordance with Glassflugel drawings no. 201-60-11 and 201-62-12.
The manadatory rudder stop modification 201-15 was also included.
Finally an Oxygen system was installed. A new weighting report was made up and shows an increase of 27 lbs.
In 1975 the Libelle made 50 starts and flew 95 hours in total. Total starts and hours during lifetime of Libelle equals 208 starts and  454 hours.

1976

In April '76 Mr. Page did the annual inspection again. Water tanks were removed for inspection. No issues found.
In 1976 the Libelle made  51 starts and flew 77 hours in total. Total starts and hours during lifetime of Libelle equals 259 starts and  531 hours
The Libelle changed ownership in August '76 as Mr. R. Bousfield in Colchester Essex.
